Today we pray for the Department of Environmental Services and all those who support and maintain our public infrastructure. Lord, you not only created the land and the sea for us to enjoy, you also created cities for human flourishing. You designed them to serve as vibrant centers of worship, economics and creativity; as safe places of refuge where the accused could find justice, and as merciful places for minorities because of their diversity and density. Your design for cities also includes its infrastructure, which helps a city reach its potential. We pray today for your image bearers who maintain our streets, public lighting, water and sewer lines that you would give them the resources and recognition they need to do their work. We pray for those who determine zoning requirements and issue building permits, that they would do so in a wise, equitable and efficient manner. And may they flourish as they connect more closely to you, others, themselves and your creation. Amen.
